Psalm 12:1

So this morning I scrolled through the endless “news” feed of my Facebook page to see what everyone was complaining about today.  Problems ranging from the air conditioning being broken in the summer to failed relationships to loss of loved ones.  I read BOTH daily devotionals today… the one from Pastor Greg Laurie AND the daily one on my phone.  The one on my phone today seemed to speak more to me today than the one from Pastor Laurie though, so here we have it.

“Help, Lord, because the godly are all gone; the faithful have completely disappeared from the human race!” — Psalm 12:1

That was the “Common English Bible” translation… (side note,  Bible Gateway is really cool in that it has almost EVERY translation… so you can scroll through different ones of the same verse) and I thought it sounded the best (I didn’t look at all of them though).

The devotional stopped at “Help, Lord.” which I thought seemed awfully short for a Psalm.  So I looked it up and got the whole verse.  However the prayer itself is really short and also very much to the point.  I think people don’t seem to want to ask for help for whatever reason these days and they most certainly don’t want to ask it from God.  It is really sad… that people turn from their creator, get into trouble, and don’t ask for help from the only source that can truly save them.

It is also a great example of a simple and honest prayer, which is unlike a lot of the ones you hear prayed out loud at church.  Do you ever think that some pastors pray lengthy emotional prayers for a dramatic effect?  I have thought that from time to time.  “Help, Lord!”  is really all you need!
