Kerri
Hello. My name is Kerri and I’m very excited about reading Scripture and posting verses here. Let’s study God’s word together!
Exodus 3:13-15
Happy Father’s Day!
We’re going to Derby today to visit my father-in-law. This is a day to honor your fathers, so make sure you wish him a Happy Father’s Day, and always remember to honor your Heavenly Father every day.
“Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.” — Exodus 3:13–15
Here is an excerpt from desiringgod.org: Did you know Yahweh appears 6,828 times in the Old Testament? Yahweh is God’s proper name in Hebrew. The name Yahweh and the name I AM are built out of the same Hebrew word (hayah). The other is that Yahweh seems to be used here interchangeably with I AM. “I AM has sent me to you” (verse 14). “Yahweh . . . has sent me to you” (verse 15). I think it would be safe to say that God’s purpose in this meeting with Moses is to reveal, as he never had before (Exodus 6:2), the meaning of his personal name, Yahweh. The key is in the phrase, I AM, and especially in the phrase, I AM WHO I AM.
I love the different names of God in the Old Testament. Here are a few:
Yahweh: Lord, Jehovah
El Shaddai: Lord God Almighty
El Elyon: The Most High God
Adonai: Lord, Master
Jehovah Nissi: The Lord My Banner
Jehovah-Raah: The Lord My Shepherd
Jehovah Rapha: The Lord That Heals
Jehovah Shammah: The Lord Is There
Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord Our Righteousness
Jehovah Mekoddishkem: The Lord Who Sanctifies You
El Olam: The Everlasting God
Elohim: God
Qanna: Jealous
Jehovah Jireh: The Lord Will Provide
Jehovah Shalom: The Lord Is Peace
Jehovah Sabaoth: The Lord of Hosts
