1 Corinthians 6:12

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. – 1 Corinthians 6:12

I have the right to eat that package of cookies, but it is not beneficial for me.  I have the right to eat two pieces of cake after supper instead of only one, but it is not beneficial for me.  I will surely pay the price later.  Though this is not the beginning of a new year where we all work hard for those New Year resolutions, it is the beginning of a new month and we can still work hard to change things for the better.  Toward the latter days of my mom’s life she would have made her meals just a plate of sweets  if we allowed her to.  She told me that her mother always had dessert after supper.  I also love sweets and cannot understand how some people do not.  So, being the first day of a brand new month, I will once again try to have self-control when it comes to eating sugar.

I found on the internet 10 reasons why you need to stop eating so many sweets:

  1. They spoil your teeth.
  2. They cause your blood sugar levels to spike and drop.
  3. They hurt your immunity.
  4. They harm your liver.
  5. They cause you to gain weight.
  6. They make you resistant to insulin, which can lead to diabetes and cancer.
  7. They get you addicted.
  8. They damage your heart.
  9. They give you premature wrinkles.
  10. They harm your brain.

The most import reason why you need to stop eating so many sweets is:

“You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body,”  — 1 Cor. 6:19-20
