Joshua 1:9

Life likes to throw fear at us like babies like to throw their disappointing dinner at their parents… Fear has a way of shaking us to our core and gripping us by the throat. It’s during times like these when I try to remember this verse.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”  — Joshua 1:9

When I was a child my mom used to say this verse to me. Whenever I was afraid she’d say “Be strong and courageous” and then I’d finish the rest. Over time, this kind of became something I naturally thought of when I got scared.

That doesn’t mean I never felt abandoned. Sometimes, you’re terrified and hurting and you pray… only to hear nothing. You’re not alone. Another thing fear likes to do is scream overtop of everything else. This would be a great time to remember this verse!

Ground yourself. Remember what God has said. Write this on a post-it note and stick it to your bathroom mirror. Don’t forget are not alone.
